Cellcom Women’s Division Week 2 Round-up: Albertee Sawyer’s Hat-trick Sends World Girls on Top

There were wins for World Girls, Island Queens, Senior Pro and Earth Angels following this weekend’s Cellcom Women’s Division matches.

World Girls 6-1 Naskids FC

A goal by Josephine Palipue and a first-half hat-trick by Albertee Sawyer gave World Girls a 4-0 half-time lead. Sawyer opened the scoring in the 4th minute before adding her second in the 18th minute. Palipue increased World Girls’ lead to 3-0 in the 26th minute before Sawyer completed her hat-trick in the 30th minute. After the break, Laura Gbati pulled one back for Naskids in the 58th minute but a brace from Miatta Morris in the 73rd and 80th minute sealed the 6-1 victory for World Girls on Friday evening which sent them on top of the Women’s Division table with six points from two matches.

Pro Sisters 0-2 Island Queens

It was a much needed win for the Queens, the three points taking them to the third spot of the Cellcom Women’s Division table after losing their first match of the season 0-3 to World Girls.  In a very tight match at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium on Friday afternoon, a 64th minute penalty goal from Famatta Bondor and a 90th minute goal by Halimatu Sow were enough to seal the Queens’ first victory of the season.

Determined Girls 0-1 Senior Pro

The 2013/14 Runners-up Senior Pro maintained their 100 percent record in this year’s competition as they defeated Determined Girls 1-0 on Saturday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. A 42nd minute strike from Mercy Jarvan was enough to place Senior Pro in the second spot, tied with World Girls on six points on the Women’s Division table.

Earth Angels 1-0 Blanco FC

In the last match of Week 2 played on Sunday, the defending champions Earth Angels and Blanco FC played in a very highly contested match but Kanties Sayee‘s 81st minute strike proved to be the winner as the Angels climbed to third spot on the Women’s Division table with four points while Blanco FC remains rooted at the bottom of the table without a win in two matches.
