Liberia’s Chief Patron of Sports, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, on Wednesday visited the practice session of the Monrovia Football Academy at the Barrack Young Controller field, the “Blue Field” in Central Monrovia. Addressing players, (both male and female soccer students) of the Academy, President Sirleaf promised her support to the program.
President Sirleaf said her visit to the Academy was in two parts. Firstly, she said to welcome Jill Ellis, U.S Female’s National Team Head Coach and 2015 FIFA Coach of the Year and Ashlyn Harris, U.S Female National Team Goalkeeper to Liberia and also to commend the family of the Monrovia Football Academy for developing the talents of young people, particularly the children of Liberia.
Interacting with the kids, the Liberian leader encouraged them to stay in school and continue to do well in their lessons. She urged them to be good and productive citizens of Liberia.
“I am pleased to be here and see how you are doing. If you played well you can be like George Weah who played and became world best or be like me if you want to be President,” Madam Sirleaf further said.
“I am proud to see them playing soccer,” she added.
She commended U.S Ambassador to Liberia, Madam Christine Elder, for her support in such endeavor and also to the two facilitators from America. The Liberian leader praised the effort of all those who formed part of the arrangement including the Management of Monrovia Football Academy.
The Chief Patron of Sports was accompanied by Minister of Youth and Sports Charles Saah N’Tow, Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe, District #9 Representative Munah E. Pelham-Youngblood and LFA Vice President for Administration, Musa Shannon among others.
