The World Football body, FIFA will provide fifty thousand United States Dollars ($50,000.00) and a consignment of football equipment for a youth football league in Liberia.
FIFA’s Technical Development Officer for West Africa who was in Liberia during the week for three(3) days to assess the country’s youth football development program made the disclosure in an interview with Liberia Football Today.
Mr. Francios Bohe who is based in neighboring Ivory Coast and works with the FIFA Regional Office said he is in Liberia to access progress on football development after the EBOLA Outbreak stalled some of Liberia’s football development initiative.
The FIFA Technical Development Officer for West Africa said has FIFA approved fifty thousand United States Dollars to carry out the youth football league in Liberia and is also providing equipment for the youth league. He said the competition will be held for youth at the Under14 and 15 levels in both male and female footballs.
Mr. Bohe disclosed FIFA will also bring in a Coaching Instructor and Referee Instructor to train coaches and referees for the specific purpose of building the capacity for those that will coach and referee in the youth football competition.
He revealed the league will be organized in collaboration with the Technical Director of the LFA Henry Brown and his technical department stating one of the reasons for his visit is the review the programs of the LFA’ s Technical Department. He revealed this is one occasion, where FIFA gave monies to country to develop their youth football program and wants Liberia take advantage of the initiative.
“We have plenty things to do in Liberia like Beach Soccer, futsal, women football among others”, the FIFA West Africa Football Technical Development Officer stated. He said he has already informed the Technical Director of the LFA to request FIFA to support the development of all the disciplines related to football growth and development in Liberia.
The FIFA Official said he visited the LFA Technical Center under construction in Careysburg, FIFA Goal Projects and the various stadiums around Monrovia and will make a formal report to FIFA Head Office in Zurich, Switzerland.
He described his relationship with the LFA as excellent and the collaboration and support during his visit as excellent. He hopes that at the end of his visit and with the level of cooperation he is receiving; Liberia can get more from FIFA in terms of football development.
“I have come here to collect information; I need information to inform FIFA which will give opportunity to FIFA to help our member countries. This country is in my zone, I have 17 federations/associations in my zone with 15 in West Africa along with Angola plus Sao Tome and Principe so I have a big work to do to help these federations”, the FIFA Technical Development Officer for West Africa concluded.
A meeting was held between the FIFA TDO and LFA 1st Vice President Musa Shannon on Thursday at the end of his trip to Liberia. During the meeting the two discussed FIFA development programs for Liberian football including support for beach soccer.
