County Meet: What Each Team Needs To Do To Make The Quarterfinals

The Group Stage of the 2015-2016 National County Sports Meet will draw to a close on Thursday, December 17, 2015 with 13 teams having a chance of qualifying for the quarterfinal stage of the competition which will be held at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium from January 3, 2016 to January 9, 2016.

Montserrado County have already qualified from Group IV while Grand Cape Mount County were eliminated from Group II so we look at the remaining 13 sides who will be fighting for the last seven spots across the country tomorrow.

GROUP I

Grand Bassa County were awarded three points and two goals after players and officials from Sinoe County interrupted the game during Match Day 2. According to the Minister of Youth & Sport, Hon. Eugene Nagbe, seven players of Sinoe County along with four officials including the Assistant Superintendent were expelled from the tournament. Police arrested three of them and they were freed later except the coach of Sinoe who still remains in custody.

River Gee County will need a draw against Grand Bassa County to qualify as group winners. They can also qualify if they lose to Grand Bassa and Bong County lose or draw against Sinoe County in the other match.

Bong County will need a win with any score against Sinoe County to ensure their place in the quarterfinals. They can still qualify if they draw against Sinoe County and Grand Bassa lose or draw against River Gee County. Bong County can also qualify if they avoid a two-goal loss to Sinoe County while hoping that Grand Bassa lose to River Gee.

Grand Bassa County will need any win against River Gee County to book their place in the quarterfinals. They can still qualify with a draw if Bong County lose to Sinoe County in the other match.

Sinoe County will need to defeat Bong County by a three-goal score line and hope Grand Bassa lose to River Gee by any score line. They can also qualify if they win by a two-goal score line and Grand Bassa lose to River Gee by similar score line.

 

GROUP II

Maryland County will need at least a draw against Grand Cape Mount County to qualify for the quarterfinals. They can still qualify if they lose and Nimba County defeat Bomi County in the other match. Maryland can also qualify if they lose and Bomi defeat Nimba with the same score line. Lastly, they could also qualify if they lose by a single-goal score line if Nimba and Bomi play to a goalless draw.

Nimba County will need at least a draw against Bomi County to ensure qualifications to the quarterfinals. They can also qualify if they lose and Grand Cape Mount County defeat Maryland by a higher score line.

Bomi County will need at least a win against Nimba county to qualify for the quarterfinals. They can also qualify if they draw and Grand Cape Mount County defeat Maryland County by a two-goal score line.

Grand Cape Mount County are already eliminated.

 

GROUP III

Lofa County will need at least a draw against Grand Kru County to qualify for the quarterfinals. They can also qualify if they lose by a single goal score line against Grand Kru.

Grand Gedeh County will need to win against Rivercess County to ensure their place in the quarterfinals. They can also qualify if they draw and Lofa defeat or draw against Grand Kru County in the other match. They can still qualify if they draw and Grand Kru defeat Lofa by a two-goal score line.

Rivercess County will need to defeat Grand Gedeh County to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Grand Kru County will need to defeat Lofa County by a two-goal score line to ensure their place in the quarterfinals. They can also qualify if they win in a high-scoring one-goal score line if Grand Gedeh County and Rivercess County play to a goalless draw in the other match.

 

GROUP IV

Montserrado County have already qualified.

Gbarpolu County will need at least a draw against Margibi County to book their place in the quarterfinals. They can also qualify if they avoid losing to Margibi by a two-goal score line.

Margibi County will need to defeat Gbarpolu County by a two-goal score line to qualify for the quarterfinals.
