First Division Day 2 Recap: Keitrace FC & LISCR Maintain Perfect Start

By Kolubah Zayzay

Match Day 2 of the 2014/2015 Cellcom First Division league has now been completed with Keitrace FC and LISCR FC maintaining their perfect start to the season with two wins each in Group B while defending champions Barrack Young Controllers (BYC) and Liberia’s darling club Invincible Eleven (IE) have yet to win in Group A.

On Saturday in Group B matches, Amardia Kawua scored a hat-trick to inspire Keitrace FC to a convincing 5-1 win over newcomers Aries FC while Dominic Jlateh scored a brace as rejuvenated LISCR FC defeated FC Fassell 3-1 to remain tied on six points with Keitrace FC at the top of the Group B table. In the other Group B match, NPA Anchors pipped LPRC Oilers 1-0 to kick-start their league campaign after losing their first match last week.

In today’s Group A match between defending champions BYC and IE, the match was marred by drama at the ATS. Five red cards were issued in that match by Referee Isaac Montgomery as the two sides battled out for a 2-2 draw with four cards issued to BYC. The Go Blue Boys were even forced to use midfielder Amara Sackor in goal after their goalkeeper was red carded and there was no substitute keeper on the bench.

BYC had been in the lead by two goals before series of red cards were issued due to indiscipline from both teams. During the melee, the Yellow Boys were able to score twice with Shoila Deco scoring the equalizer for IE from the penalty spot in the 84th minute and earning a point for his side. The result means IE and BYC are still without a win this season.

Sunday’s first game at the ATS saw ten-men Jubilee FC forced to a 1-1 with Watanga FC while Monrovia Club Breweries defeated Nimba United 2-1 to earn their first win of the season.

Jubilee FC and Monrovia Club Breweries top Group A with four points.
