Counties Donate Land for Football Academies

Several counties have donated acres of land to the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to build soccer academies across the country.

Nine counties (Bomi, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee, River Cess, Sinoe) donated 25 acres each while Bong County donated 50 acres.

The LFA through the Chairman of the LFA Sub-Committee and Sub-Association, Wallace Weiah, is presently in negotiations with local authorities in Lofa and Nimba Counties; however, negotiations with local authorities in Grand Bassa County have been futile so far.

The LFA has also indicated that Montserrado County and Margibi County will not be included in these projects due to the fact that the Careysburg Technical Center is based in Montserrado County while the FIFA’s Goal Project is located in Margibi County.

Meanwhile the LFA has stated that the construction of each football academy is estimated to cost $350,000 except for the academy in Bong County which will cost more. The LFA intends to solicit funds from the Government of Liberia, CAF, and FIFA to build these academies across the country.
